   ABOUT PERFORMING HUMANITY

Performing Humanity is an independent scholarly blog invested in promoting interdisciplinary conversations about the language and social structures shaping our perceptions of humans and animals.  The site explores these questions through lenses of history and literature as well as with an eye to contemporary debates. At base, our mission is to raise questions about the origins, functions, and limits of these categories.

Founded and edited by Dr. Miranda Garno Nesler, a specialist in early modern literature and culture with a PhD from Vanderbilt University, PH

originated out of her emerging project on early modern depictions of hybridity. A portion of this work was presented at the 2013 Renaissance Conference of Southern California; it is now forthcoming in the 2015 volume of Shakespearean International Yearbook.

PH invites content in the field of animal studies from across disciplines. For more information on proposals, please visit our Submissions page.
